Will the chairs fit my table?

Two checks matter most. First, the gap between the chair seat and the underside of the table top should be about 25 to 30cm, so you can sit comfortably without your knees hitting the table. Second, if the chairs have arms, the arms need to slide under the table top, or the chairs will sit out from the table permanently. The product page gives seat height and, where relevant, arm height; compare these with the height of your table.

For spacing, allow about 60cm of table edge per chair. Wider chairs, and chairs with arms, may need a little more.

Styles of dining chair

• Swivel chairs: turn to face the room, which is handy at a kitchen island or in an open-plan space. Batilda, Darlene, Dean, Carrie, Alonso and Callisto all swivel.
• Cantilever chairs: have a single frame with no back legs, giving a slight spring. Calabria, Como, Roma, Vittoria and Xavier are cantilever designs.
• Chairs with arms: such as Brooke, Cassandra, Lima and Leo, feel more like an armchair for long dinners.
• Rattan and spindle backs: Camille, Knoxley, Annika and Alassio give a lighter, more traditional look.
• Benches: slide under the table when not in use and seat small children easily. Brooklyn, Coxmoor, Kaito, Leonie and Luxe all have benches.

Fabrics and finishes

Upholstered chairs come in velvet, boucle, chenille, faux leather and textured fabrics. Faux leather wipes clean easily, which is a big help with children. Wooden and plastic chairs, such as Agatha, are the easiest of all to keep clean. Product pages list the exact materials and colours.

Sets of two or four

Most chairs are sold in pairs, and some in sets of four. Check the title before you order: buy two sets of two to make four. Mixing two styles, such as upholstered chairs at the ends and a bench along one side, is an easy way to add interest.
