Setting up a home office

A workable home office needs three things: a desk big enough for your screen and your elbows, a chair you can sit in for hours, and somewhere to put everything that is not in use. This collection brings all three together.

• Desks: compact writing desks, desks with drawers, corner desks, bookcase desks and gaming desks with colour-changing LED lighting.
• Office chairs: swivel chairs in faux leather, velvet and fabric, plus gaming chairs.
• Bookcases and shelving: tall and wide bookcases for files, books and printers.

Working in a spare room or a corner

Many home offices share a room with something else. In a spare bedroom, a slim desk with drawers can double as a dressing table, and a bookcase can hide the paperwork. In a living room corner, a corner desk uses space that is usually wasted. For a guest room that also works as an office, see our guest beds.

Before you buy, measure the space and check the desk's width and depth on the product page. As a rough guide, you want room for a laptop or monitor at arm's length, plus space to push the chair back and stand up without hitting the wall.

Matching ranges

Some ranges include desks and bookcases, so your office can match the rest of the room. Alice Springs has bookcases, storage cabinets and a desk with open shelves in a choice of colours. Paris includes desks in white and matt grey, and Lancaster has a study desk in grey and oak or cream and oak. Many desks and most office chairs count towards buy any 3, save £75, taken off automatically in the basket, so a desk, chair and bookcase together can cost less.
