Divan Beds

What is a divan bed?

A divan is a fabric-covered base with a flat top that the mattress sits on. There are no visible frame rails, so the bed looks tidy and the mattress fills the whole footprint. Because the base is boxed in, it is also the natural place for storage.

The divans in this collection

Drawers or ottoman?

Drawers are easy to reach every day and do not need you to lift a mattress. The catch is that they need clear floor beside the bed to pull out, and you lose the space between the drawers. A 2+2 layout puts two drawers on each side, which suits a double in the middle of the room. Four drawers on one side suits a bed against a wall.

An ottoman divan gives you the whole base as one large space, which is better for bulky things like spare duvets and suitcases. End lift needs clear floor at the foot of the bed, side lift needs it along one side. Our ottoman and storage beds page explains this in more detail.

Headboards

Divan bases normally take a separate headboard. A floorstanding headboard stands on the floor behind the base, so it does not need fixing to the base. If you would rather have the headboard built in, our own Any Bed range comes with the headboard as part of the bed, and its ottoman version is available with a divan style base. Remember a mattress is sold separately.
