Which shape suits your room?
- Tall narrow cabinets fit beside a chimney breast or in an alcove. The Lyon, Chelsea Living and Toronto tall narrow units are good examples.
- Wide display cabinets give more shelf space and suit a long dining room wall. Look at Bohol, High Rock and Wensley.
- Low display cabinets double as a sideboard, with a top surface for lamps or photos, such as the Basic, Cortina and Chelsea Living low cabinets.
- China cabinets combine glass doors above with drawers below, such as Barcelona, Madrid and Paris.
- Wall display cabinets, such as Corona, hang on the wall and keep the floor clear.
Left hand or right hand?
Some cabinets are sold in left hand and right hand versions, marked LH or RH, or LHD and RHD, in the title. This tells you which side the door hinges on. Choose the version that opens away from the nearest wall or walkway so you can stand in front of the cabinet with the door open. A matched pair, one of each, frames a TV unit or fireplace nicely.
LED lighting
Built-in lighting makes glassware sparkle and turns the cabinet into a soft lamp in the evening. Bohol, Celesto, Klara, Wensley and Lyon are available with LED lights, and the Toronto cabinets have plexi lighting. Several come in both lit and unlit versions, so check the title. Lit cabinets need a socket nearby; the product page explains how the lighting is powered.
Finishes
Choose from oak effect, white, black, grey, high gloss, two-tone finishes, rattan effect and colours such as sand and terracotta. The product page lists the materials, the number of shelves and whether the shelves are glass.
Many display cabinets match a sideboard or TV unit in the same range, shown in the range cards above. For open shelving, see bookcases, and for the rest of the room, dining room furniture.
