What a pocket sprung mattress does

In a pocket sprung mattress every spring sits in its own fabric pocket, so each one compresses on its own. That means the mattress pushes back where your body is heavier and gives where it is lighter. It also cuts down roll-together and the jolt when your partner turns over, which is why pocket springs are a favourite for couples. Open coil and bonnell mattresses link the springs together, so the whole surface moves as one.

Does spring count matter?

A higher spring count usually means smaller springs packed more closely, which gives finer, more even support. It is not the only thing that counts, though. The comfort layers on top decide how soft the mattress feels, so a 1000 spring mattress with memory foam can feel softer than a higher count one without.
