Why goose down

Down is the soft cluster that sits under a bird's outer feathers. It has no quill, so it is lighter and softer than feather, and it traps air to keep you warm without weight. Goose down clusters tend to be larger than duck, so they loft more and reach higher fill powers. The result is a duvet that feels light on top of you and a pillow that squashes softly and springs back.

Choosing tog, firmness and size

Each duvet comes in 4.5, 9, 10.5 and 13.5 tog and in Single, Double, King, Super King and Emperor. For most UK bedrooms 10.5 tog works all year (see duvet tog ratings explained). The pillows come in soft, medium or firm and in Standard, King Size and Square. Side sleepers usually go firm, back sleepers medium and front sleepers soft, and our pillow firmness guide helps if you are between two.

Goose down or a feather blend?
